On March 11th:
WHAT: On March 11th, Barrington is holding our town elections. Articles 2, 3 & 4 are designed to stop the development of much needed housing in Barrington by increasing the lot size requirements for new constructions.
WHY THIS MATTERS: There would be several negative consequences of this change.
- Harms Property Rights: These articles limit what you are able to do with your property.
- Lowers Your Future Property Value: If you want to subdivide in the future, developers will be limited in what they can do with your property leading to lower sale prices and lower value for your land.
- Higher Property Taxes: When we take away opportunities to broaden the property tax base, we lose the chance to lower the property burden on all Barrington Property Tax payers.
- Less Housing Options for our children and retirees: If you want to downsize and retire in town, or if your children are looking to purchase a home in town, the market is tight and pricey. Limiting new construction will only exacerbate the problem.
